What causes cracked heels?
Cracked heels happen when the skin around your heel becomes dry and thick, then splits. Deep cracks can be sore and sometimes bleed.
Common causes include dry skin, standing for long periods, and backless shoes or sandals.
What happens at your appointment
- 1We check your heels and the skin around them.
- 2We gently remove the thick, hard skin so the cracks can heal.
- 3We recommend the right cream and show you how to keep your heels soft.
Common questions
Does it hurt?
No. Most people find it relaxing, and their heels feel smoother straight away.
What cream should I use?
A thick cream made for dry feet, ideally one with urea, used every day. We'll recommend one that suits you.
My cracks are bleeding. Can I still come?
Yes, but if a crack looks infected or won't heal, especially if you have diabetes, please see your GP too.
Do you do home visits?
Yes, for NG8, NG9 and NG10 postcodes, Monday to Friday. Please call us to arrange one.
