What is an ingrown toenail?
An ingrown toenail is when the edge of the nail grows into the skin next to it, usually on the big toe. It can make your toe red, swollen and painful.
Common causes include cutting nails too short or curved at the corners, tight shoes, and injuries to the toe.

Common questions
Does it hurt?
We're very gentle. Most people feel relief straight away once the nail stops pressing into the skin.
What if my toe looks infected?
If it's very red, hot, full of pus or you feel unwell, please see your GP. We can still help with the nail once any infection has been treated.
Do you do nail surgery?
No. If you need minor nail surgery, we'll explain your options and suggest you see a podiatrist.
Do you do home visits?
Yes, for NG8, NG9 and NG10 postcodes, Monday to Friday. Please call us to arrange one.
